On Thursday July 31st, Trump administration has sent letters to 17 big drug makers with the must-take steps to bring down the prices of U.S. medicines and make them in line with their European counterparts.
The letter demands the big pharmaceutical companies to provide "Most Favored Nation" price to "every single Medicaid patient" and pledge not to offer "better prices for new drugs than prices offered in the United States". If the big pharmas do not take actions to be in compliant with the MFN drug pricing policy, then the federal government will "will deploy every tool in our arsenal to protect American families from continues abusive drug pricing practices".
The 17 big drug makers who received letters are AbbVie, Amgen, AstraZeneca, Boehringer Ingelheim, Bristol Myers Squibb, Eli Lilly, Merck KGaA's EMD Serono, Roche's Genentech, Gilead, GSK, Johnson & Johnson, Merck, Novartis, Novo Nordisk, Pfizer, Regeneron and Sanofi.
