1-Boc-3-hydroxypiperidine is widely used in pharmaceutical, organic synthesis and biological researches.
It is primarily used in the development of CNS drugs targeting Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. It also has an important role in developing antiviral drugs, for example HIV protease inhibitors. 1-Boc-3-hydroxypiperidine plays a crucial role in inhibiting HIV-1 and HIV-2 proteases. The working mechanism is that by inhibiting HIV-1 and HIV-2 proteases, it prevents the leakage of the viral poly-protein during the maturation of the virus and as a result, immature and non-infectious virus is produced.
In organic synthesis, the Boc group selectively makes piperidine nitrogen functional, making 1-Boc-3-hydroxypiperidine part of the protecting group strategy. It is also used in ligand and catalyst development as well.
