Product Overview
4-Bromobenzyl alcohol is a versatile brominated aromatic alcohol with important roles in pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and advanced materials.
In Pharmaceuticals, 4-Bromobenzyl alcohol is used to synthesize brominated benzyl derivatives with bio-activity and is an important ingredient in anti-microbial and anti-fungal agents. It is also a CNS drug precursor, making it crucial for drugs which target neurological disorders. Moreover, it can be modified to form ester prodrugs for improved bioavailability.
Its dual functionality (–OH and –Br) makes it valuable for cross-coupling reactions, Grignard chemistry and chiral synthesis. Specifically, the –OH group can be used to protect amines or carboxylic acids in peptide chemistry. The bromo group enables Pd-catalyzed cross-coupling with boronic acids in Suzuki-Miyaura Coupling.
