In the previous article, we have generally introduced the flame retardant nature of the guanidine family. In this article, we want to dive deep into another member of the guanidine family - guanidine sulfamate.
Guanidine sulfamate, with CAS number 50979-18-5 or 51528-20-2 is a highly efficient halogen-free, nitrogen-based flame retardant widely used in curtains, carpets, furniture and building materials to reduce combustibility. It is also effective in engineering plastics like PA6, PA66 and cellulose fibers. The mechanisms of how guanidine sulfamate reduces combustibility is the same as we have mentioned in the previous article: through gaseous phase and condensed phase.
In terms of its performance, guanidine sulfamate can achieve high ratings (e.g., UL94 V-0). When used in coatings, guanidine sulfamate can reduce heat release rate by up to 90.7%. Meanwhile, it is often combined with phosphorous-based retardants (e.g., APP, MPP) for enhanced performance.
Guanidine sulfamate has advantages by possessing the following properties:
- It is nitrogen-based and halogen-free and therefore it is environmentally friendly.
- It can remain stable and effective at high processing temperatures with around 200 - 300℃.
- It can prevent molten materials from dripping during combustion.
Yue Cheng De Hong is a supplier with its own production base that can supply guanidine sulfamate at a bulk price. The annual production yield for now is 300 tons.
